Arijit Singh Returns With Laiyaan Fans Call It âœA Warm Hugâ

After stepping away from mainstream playback singing earlier this year, Arijit Singh continues to lean into independent music with his latest release, Laiyaan. Dropped on April 16 across streaming platforms, the track adds to his growing catalogue of non-film work, signalling a steady move toward more personal and experimental musical expression.

Featuring vocals by Arijit alongside Ruaa Kayy, aka Harjot Kaur, with composition and production by RUTVXK, Laiyaan embraces a stripped-down, emotionally driven sound. Instead of scale or heavy orchestration, the song focuses on restraint, allowing silence, texture, and lyrical intimacy to take centre stage.

The track quickly found traction online, with listeners responding strongly to its raw, unfiltered tone. One fan wrote, “Arijit’s voice hits different when he’s free from Bollywood - this feels so pure and emotional,” while another commented on the unexpected pairing, praising Ruaa Kayy’s presence and calling for more recognition for her work.

The emotional pull of the track became a recurring theme across reactions, with one widely shared comment describing it as “a warm hug you didn’t know you needed,” capturing the mood the song seems to evoke among listeners.

Speaking about the collaboration, Arijit shared, “Laiyaan was a great opportunity to connect back. It was a meditative experience while singing it… I am grateful to the composers for giving me this opportunity to feel the unspoken.” He also praised the composers for their sensitivity toward soulful music.

Ruaa Kayy reflected on the process, calling it organic and rooted in listening, adding that working with Arijit was both a learning experience and a reminder that “less can sometimes say more.” Meanwhile, RUTVXK emphasised the intent behind the track, noting that the goal was to keep the sound honest and uncomplicated rather than scale-driven.

Together, Laiyaan reflects a broader shift in music consumption, where audiences are increasingly drawn to emotional authenticity, minimal production, and storytelling that prioritises feeling over form.
