The weekend box office brought three very different films to the big screen - Superman, Maalik, and Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan. While all three had their share of buzz, their collections and audience responses played out in contrasting ways.
Maalik

Rajkummar Rao's Maalik put up a steady performance over its opening weekend. Directed by Pulkit, the film earned Rs 14.09 crore net in three days. It began with Rs 3.75 crore on Friday and saw consistent growth with Rs 5.25 crore each on Saturday and Sunday. Strong word-of-mouth seems to be working in its favour.

Starring Vikrant Massey and Shanaya Kapoor, the romantic drama had a slow weekend at the box office. It opened with just Rs 0.3 crore on Friday, improved slightly to Rs 0.49 crore on Saturday, and closed at Rs 1.2 crore on Sunday. The film is showing gradual but limited traction among audiences.

Superman

David Corenswet’s Superman had the biggest opening among the three. The superhero film collected Rs 25.5 crore over the weekend across all four language versions in India. It started at Rs 7 crore on Friday, rose to Rs 9.5 crore on Saturday, and dipped slightly to Rs 9 crore on Sunday. The English version led the numbers, followed by Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil.
Superman takes the top spot, Maalik has a promising start, and Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan aspires to gain pace.
With weekdays are ahead, it'll be interesting to see if they pass the Monday litmus test at the box office.
