Plot

Squid Game is a dystopian survival drama that revolves around a secret contest where 456 players are taken to an undisclosed, highly guarded place and are made to play deadly gams. In each round, the losers are killed and the one person who is able to survive till the end becomes the winner. In season 1, plater 456 (Gi-hun) won but instead of using the prize money to start a new life, he decided to go back to the games and end it once and for all. The second season saw him try to unionize the players and make them revolt against the creators. He was successful to some extent but was overpowered by the soldiers. The Frontman also entered the game as Player 001, to gain Gi-hun's trust. Second season ended with him betraying Gi-hun but he was oblivious to it.

The third season will delve into Gi-hun’s (Player 456) transformative journey, from his life before the deadly games to his current struggle to retain his faith in humanity. The final trailer showed Geum-ja (Player 149) reflecting on the nature of life and injustice. We also saw glimpses of the fallen players from Season 1 — Ali Abdul, Kang Sae-byeok, Oh Il-nam, Cho Sang-woo, reminding viewers of the trauma and loss that Gi-hun has endured. High-stakes action and emotional intensity, including a potential face-off between Gi-hun and the Front Man (Player 001) is also in store. On the other hand, the Frontman will welcome new, mysterious VIPs.

Who are the VIPs?

The VIPs are essentially clients of Oh Il-nam, the creator and host of Squid Games who passed away in season 1. They are extremely wealthy people, who are bored with their lives. In-nam created the games so that these rich clients can place their bet on the players and gamble with their lives. They watch the games from their personal space but at times visit the island as well. In the first season, they were seen towards the end and had their faces covered with masks. Most of them appeared to be Americans but two of them spoke seemed to be Chinese and French.

Meanwhile, as the Front Man remains busy conducting the games and breaking Gi-hun's spirit, we see that his brother Jun-ho continues his search for the elusive island where the games are taking place. But he is unaware of a traitor in their midst.
