After making waves in cinemas earlier this year, Khalid Rahman’s latest directorial, Alappuzha Gymkhana, is now set for its digital premiere. The film, which charmed audiences with its humour, heart, and hustle, will be available to stream on Sony LIV starting June 13.

From Campus Shenanigans to the Boxing Ring
The film hit theatres on April 10 and quickly garnered attention for its refreshingly grounded take on sports and student life. At the centre of the story is Jojo Johnson, played by the ever-reliable Naslen, a college student who signs up for boxing not out of love for the sport—but to take the easy way into college through the sports quota. But what begins as a carefree shortcut quickly spirals into a journey packed with grit, unexpected friendships, and self-realisation.
Things take a serious turn when Jojo and his band of equally clueless friends are introduced to Coach Antony Joshua (essayed by Lukman Avaran), a hard-edged disciplinarian who believes in earning victories the hard way. With sweat, bruises, and a little soul-searching, Jojo’s laidback life begins to transform—both inside and outside the ring.
A Vibrant Cast and Crew That Delivers the Knockout
The screenplay, co-written by Khalid Rahman and Sreeni Saseendran, and featuring dialogues by Ratheesh Ravi (Ishq), blends humour and realism with ease. What elevates Alappuzha Gymkhana further is its spirited ensemble cast. Alongside Naslen and Lukman, the film stars Ganapathi, Sandeep Pradeep (of Falimy fame), Anagha Ravi, Kottayam Nazeer, Franco Francis, rapper Baby Jean, Shiva Hariharan, Shon Joy, Karthik, Nanda Nishant, and Noila Francy, bringing together an authentic mix of fresh energy and seasoned talent.

On the technical front, Alappuzha Gymkhana reunites the core crew behind Thallumaala—cinematographer Jimshi Khalid, composer Vishnu Vijay, and the late Nishadh Yusuf, whose editing work on the film is among his last. Their combined effort gives the film a unique rhythm and aesthetic, capturing the pulse of youthful restlessness and sporting spirit.
A mix of light-hearted comedy, emotional beats, and underdog determination, Alappuzha Gymkhana is poised to connect with new viewers—and re-energise old fans—as it enters the OTT space.
