Jesse Armstrong opens up on his directorial debut Mountainhead

Jesse Armstrong’s first feature film as a director, Mountainhead, is now available to stream exclusively on OTT in India. Famous for creating the Emmy-winning show Succession, Armstrong brings his trademark wit and depth to this gripping story about a group of tech billionaires dealing with the consequences of a game-changing invention. Set in a world which is on edge, Mountainhead dives into themes of power, pride, and broken bonds as progress begins to look a lot like chaos.

Talking about the film, Armstrong explains, “It is about a group of tech billionaires who get together regularly – they are buddies and one of them has launched some tech which is exploding in the world and causing conflict. And it is how they navigate their relationship as the world starts to burn.”

He also opens up about the writing process, saying, “The advances in AI. The prevalence of social media in our lives. It is not what is happening, but it is a nightmare version of what could happen. There have been flashes. There was one in Myanmar. There have been other incidents where violent acts have been allowed to happen by the nature of some social media sites.”

Talking about moving from writing to directing, Armstrong says, “I liked it a lot. I was lucky – I surrounded myself with a lot of talented people I had worked with on Succession. The four-lead cast are very decent human beings. So, I was set fair for the experience. It was pressured, but I enjoyed a lot.”
