The trailer of Ranabaali will be released on the evening of October 8. Ahead of the launch, a key detail has surfaced. The trailer runs for 3 minutes and 47 seconds, suggesting a film that is dramatic and driven by its story. The makers have described it as “raw, rooted storytelling that will leave you spellbound”. Vijay Deverakonda plays a revolutionary from Rayalaseema. Introducing his character, the makers said, “A warrior called RANABAALI. His OATH for his motherland. His FIGHT for his people.” Considering the epic nature of the leading man’s character, explosive scenes are only to be expected.
Not a freedom struggle, but a story of suffering
Despite what many may assume, the film is not about the freedom movement. It is set in the 1870s, when national consciousness was not as deeply established. Its characters, including Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali, have “no sense of nation” and know little beyond the cluster of villages they inhabit. The story instead centres on the Madras Famine and the immense suffering it caused, which stemmed from the acts and omissions of the British administration. Director Rahul Sankrityan has spoken about how audiences reacted to the film. He told Gulte, “I premiered the movie to different sections of the audience. The feedback was that the atrocities were too harsh and difficult to digest. So, I toned down the violence because it was disturbing and affecting the next scene for the audience.”
Ranabaali promotions gather pace
Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna are jointly promoting the film. In one of the interviews, when the actress described his rugged character look as “scary”, Vijay playfully countered, calling it “not scary”. Vijay also affectionately praised her energy on set, calling her his “cute savage”.The trailer is expected to build strong hype for the October 16 release.
