Jitendra is one of the finest actors in India today. His effortless display of expressions, be it in any given scenario, helps elevate any role he is given. His latest performance in Mirzapur: The Movie turned heads, however, for different reasons. Vikrant Massey played the role of Guddu Pandit’s (Ali Fazal) brother, Bablu. After facing a horrific fate in the last episode of the season, his character was not seen again. Now, the movie is a prequel in a way, lore-wise fitting right between episodes 6 and 7 in season 1. Instead of bringing back Vikrant Massey to reprise his role, the creative team took an unorthodox path.
Jitendra piloted the pivotal role of Bablu. This caused a stir amongst the fans, not due to any fault of Jitendra on his own, but due to being too familiar with Vikrant in the avatar of Bablu. Cast members from the movie have since come in support.

Shweta Tripathi plays the role of Golu, sister to Sweety Gupta and love interest to Bablu in Mirzapur. During an interview with NDTV, she spoke in Jitendra Kumar’s defence. She said, "What Jeetu has done is not easy. On Mirzapur, we are a family. We could be intimidating. We have all been together for nine years. But he made a full Bablu-type entry. We didn't come to know how he managed to pull it off. But now he's a part of our core group. Be it work or party, he must be there. And he makes fantastic mutton! He has done full justice to a different version of Bablu and has not taken away anything from Vikrant Massey. He is a fantastic actor, which all of us know.”
The director of Mirzapur: The Movie, Gurmeet Singh, was recently interviewed by Zoom. When asked about the decision to recast the character of Bablu for the movie, he said, “The best thing about the creative process is that it never binds us. There is often an expectation that everything will remain the same, but that isn't possible—and that shouldn't bother anyone. When we decided to recast Bablu, we were approaching the film in a new way, and this opened new doors for us.”
Jitendra Kumar is set to star in the upcoming psychological thriller, Dalimb, under the direction of Priya Aven. The movie will be released exclusively on Zee5.
