Rajinikanthâs Dharman Completes Second Schedule Gears Up for Next Phase

Rajinikanth’s much-awaited Dharman has reached another milestone. The upcoming Tamil film, which marks a major collaboration between superstar Rajinikanth and filmmaker-producer Kamal Haasan, has completed its second schedule of filming. The makers shared the update as the project continues to take shape under the direction of Ashwath Marimuthu.

Produced by Kamal Haasan through Raaj Kamal Films International and R Mahendran under the Turmeric Media banner, Dharman has generated considerable interest since its announcement, particularly because of the reunion of two of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars in the same project. While Kamal Haasan is backing the film as producer, Rajinikanth leads the cast.

The second schedule began in early August, following the completion of the film’s initial phase of production. With another schedule now wrapped, the team is expected to move ahead with the remaining portions of the film in the coming weeks.

Dharman marks Ashwath Marimuthu’s next directorial after Dragon

Ashwath Marimuthu, who previously directed the 2025 Tamil romantic comedy Dragon starring Pradeep Ranganathan, is at the helm of Dharman. His involvement came after a series of changes surrounding the project’s directorial plans. The filmmaker was officially announced as the director in June, replacing earlier plans that had involved Sundar C and subsequently Cibi Chakravarthy.

While details about Dharman’s storyline and Rajinikanth’s character have largely been kept under wraps, the casting has already added to the anticipation surrounding the film. Simran is part of the principal cast, marking her reunion with Rajinikanth after their appearance together in Karthik Subbaraj’s Petta in 2019. Raashi Khanna is also set to feature in the film.

There has been speculation around additional casting, with Rukmini Vasanth and Ram Pothineni reportedly being considered for prominent roles. Ram, in particular, has been rumoured to be playing the antagonist, although the makers have not officially confirmed these reports.

Anirudh teams up with Rajinikanth once again

The technical team brings together several familiar names from contemporary Tamil cinema. Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music for Dharman, extending his successful association with Rajinikanth. This will be their sixth film together. The composer is also scoring the music for Rajinikanth’s upcoming Jailer 2, bringing him back into the world of Nelson Dilipkumar’s blockbuster franchise.

Niketh Bommi is handling cinematography, while Pradeep E Ragav is the editor. MR Karthik Rajkumar serves as the art director, with stunt choreography being handled by the popular action duo Anbariv.

Beyond its cast and crew, Dharman carries another significant attraction. The film brings Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth together in starring roles for the first time in decades. The two legends last appeared together in K Balachander’s Thillu Mullu in 1981, although they had previously shared the screen as co-stars in films including Ninaithale Inikkum in 1979.

For now, Rajinikanth has another major release lined up before Dharman. He is set to reprise his role as Muthuvel Pandian in Nelson’s Jailer 2, the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer. The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on October 15.
