Pooja Hegde served as the Chief Guest at the 44th Annual India Day Parade in New York City on August 16, 2026. Organised by the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA), the annual event celebrates India’s Independence Day with cultural showcases, colourful floats and a large gathering of the Indian diaspora. The actress was welcomed with an enthusiastic response from fans as she joined the celebrations, riding on festive floats and greeting the crowds along Madison Avenue.

Sharing glimpses from the celebrations on social media, Pooja said India’s rich cultural heritage, traditions and achievements were on full display during the parade. She also spoke about the sight of Madison Avenue being immersed in the colours of the tricolour, with patriotic and popular Indian songs adding to the festive atmosphere.
Calling it an honour and a matter of immense pride to be part of the celebrations, Pooja said the experience of seeing the streets of New York come alive with members of the Indian community was “incredibly surreal”. She added that the celebration reflected the deep connection Indians living abroad continue to share with their homeland.
“To be there, doing this with you all is a privilege I don’t take lightly. Gratitude for this moment that I’ll carry with me for a long time,” the actress wrote while sharing photos from the event.
The India Day Parade has become one of the prominent annual celebrations of Indian heritage in New York, bringing together members of the diaspora, cultural organisations and public figures to mark India’s Independence Day.
